How do I play Youtube videos in ChatGPT?

This new feature allows you to search for and watch Youtube videos directly within ChatGPT, without having to go to Google or Youtube separately.

I asked ChatGPT to find my most popular Youtube video:

It returned one of my ChatGPT for Beginners videos, embedding it directly in the chat in its answer. The video appeared with chapters intact, allowing for easy navigation.

Yet another reason to never leave ChatGPT!

However, that video is not my most popular video, not even close.

ChatGPT got that wrong.

ChatGPT also canā€™t access Youtube video transcripts. Its analysis is limited to the videoā€™s description.

When I asked ChatGPT about a different Youtube video, it seemed to partially hallucinate, claiming the video discussed AI in real estate and legal services. But when I examined the videoā€™s chapters and description, AI in real estate and legal services werenā€™t mentioned anywhere.

Playing Youtube videos in ChatGPT is an awesome feature, but beware these limitations.

How accurate is ChatGPTā€™s information?

ChatGPT is a powerful tool for research, brainstorming, writing, and many tasks.

But itā€™s not always accurate!

Sometimes, ChatGPT and other AI models make up information, AKA hallucination.

Imagine using false data in an important report or decisionā€¦ yikes!

šŸ’” Always double check information and validate ChatGPT's answers.

Hereā€™s an amusing example of a wrong ChatGPT answer, immediately followed by ChatGPT contradicting itself šŸ˜…

ChatGPT claims it canā€™t play Youtube videos within its web app as of today November 16 2024, but then it embeds a Youtube video right below its answer!

Here are 3 tips to identify hallucinations and improve ChatGPTā€™s accuracy:

1. Ask ChatGPT to cite sources and explain reasoning

Hallucinations are tricky when theyā€™re seamlessly woven into a seemingly correct answer. Perhaps 99% of answer is correct but 1 detail is wrong.

Here, I asked ChatGPT what happened on a specific date, and it replies confidently:

Next, I ask ChatGPT to cite its sources and explain its reasoning šŸ’”

This triggered an internet search, and ChatGPT admitted it couldnā€™t find any supporting evidence for its previous answer!

Even though ChatGPT initially sounded convincing, it was wrong and acknowledged it.

2. Cross-Reference with ChatGPT Search

Another tip to identify hallucinations and improve accuracy is to cross-reference answers with ChatGPT Search.

This feature allows ChatGPT to search the internet, gathering evidence for its answer.

Below, I submit the same prompt, but with ChatGPT Search enabled:

ChatGPT cites a Wikipedia link, which contains information about the merger between Macyā€™s and Davisonā€™s in January 1985.

However, upon further investigation, the source does NOT mention whether the merger specifically happened on January 2nd. It couldā€™ve been another day in January 1985.

Another minor detail hallucinated!

This is why itā€™s important to double-check and validates all sources yourself!

In general, real-time internet access is important because every AI model has a knowledge cutoff date. ChatGPT-4oā€™s knowledge cutoff date is May 2024. This means ChatGPT-4o, without internet, does NOT know anything about recent events, updates, or advancements.

3. Cross-Reference with Other AI Models

Another effective strategy to detect inaccurate information is to cross-reference responses from ChatGPT with other AI models.

Here are AI models you can use for free:

  • Google Bard: An AI tool that provides conversational answers and has access to more recent information.

  • Claude: Developed by Anthropic, this model offers unique perspectives and conversational abilities.

  • Microsoft Bing Chat: Uses the power of GPT-4 with additional integration of web search capabilities for the latest information.

  • Perplexity AI: An AI assistant that focuses on providing up-to-date and factual information from recent sources.

The key is to compare multiple AI modelsā€™ responses to the same question.

If the information aligns across models, it's more likely to be accurate.

(but not guaranteed)

If models provide conflicting information, this signals the need for review.

I tried Perplexity and Claude 3.5 Sonnet:

  • Perplexity did not identify any specific events on January 2 1985, but it didnā€™t even mention the merger that did occur in the month of January 1985

  • Claude 3.5 Sonnet explicitly admitted itā€™s not confident about making any specific claims about what happened on January 2 1985

Cross-referencing ChatGPT answers with other AI models adds an extra layer of validation, but remember that itā€™s still not 100% guaranteed.

How do I use ChatGPT Canvas for writing?

One of the most exciting new ChatGPT features is ChatGPT-4o with Canvas.

This feature provides an easy-to-use writing space, where you collaborate with ChatGPT, to quickly write and iterate on drafts.

Interactive Workspace

ChatGPT 4o with Canvas is a split-screen interface where you can:

  • Write and edit text on one side while ChatGPT offers suggestions or improvements on the other.

  • Highlight sections of your draft and ask for specific edits, such as ā€œMake this paragraph more conciseā€ or ā€œRewrite this section for clarity.ā€

The interactive nature of Canvas allows for a hands-on approach to refining your drafts. Itā€™s fun and optimized for speed!

In the example below:

  • I start with a simple prompt to write a blog post

  • I instruct ChatGPT to incorporate more data and statistics throughout the post

  • I select the last 2 paragraphs of the blog post and ask ChatGPT to rewrite it

ChatGPT implements each of my requests, while maintaining the context of what weā€™ve already discussed.

Editing Tools

Canvas offers several advanced tools that enhance the writing process:

  • Real-Time Feedback: Get quick suggestions on grammar, structure, and style while you write, helping you keep your writing clear and easy to read.

  • Revision Highlights: Focus on specific parts of your text by highlighting them and requesting targeted edits or feedback.

  • Undo and Redo: Easily toggle between different versions to see the changes ChatGPT has made, allowing you to iterate quickly.

Getting Started

As of November 16 2024, Canvas is only available to paid ChatGPT users.

Hereā€™s how to try it:

  • Access Canvas: go to ChatGPT and select "GPT-4o with Canvas" from the model picker.

  • Open a Canvas Window: Begin a writing task and ChatGPT will automatically open Canvas.

  • Explore the Features: Experiment with highlighting text, requesting edits, and using ChatGPTā€™s suggestions to improve your draft.

I enjoy using Canvas so far and plan to redesign Blotato's core user experience drawing inspiration from it!
